Transportation Engineering Open House Features ITS Roundtable Discussion

The Institute of Transportation Studies is excited to participate in the Berkeley Graduate Transportation Engineering Program Open House on Monday, April 3, 2017.

The event culminates with an ITS Seminar: “The Trump Administration on Transport: A New Era in Planning, Infrastructure, and Governance” in 290 Hearst Memorial Mining Building at 3:30 pm. Panelists include Mark Dowd, Visiting Scholar, UC Berkeley and Former Senior Advisor, White House and US DOT; Steve Heminger, Director, Metropolitan Transportation Commission, Dorothy Robyn, Former Senior Advisor, White House, and Karen Trapenberg Frick, Professor, City and Regional Planning, moderated by Susan Shaheen, Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering. 

The Open House begins at10:00 am with The Transportation Engineering Program session in 412 McLaughlin Hall, with a welcome and Introductions by Civil and Environmental Engineering Professor Joan Walker. Sessions include:

10:15-11:30 am Round-robin table discussions with faculty and students (15 minutes per table):
• UC Berkeley: what it offers (Professors Mike Cassidy and Joan Walker)
• Our Transportation Curriculum: MS, PhD, MS/MCP and more (Professor Mark Hansen) 
• The Institute of Transportation Studies and research opportunities (Professors Alexandre Bayen, Alexei Podznukhov, Susan Shaheen, and Alexander Skabardonis)
• Career path (Stephen Wong and others graduate students)

11:30 to Noon Transoc and student life at Berkeley + Student Q&A (no faculty and staff)

12:00 - 1:30 Lunch (Bechtel Terrace)

1:30 - 2:10 Campus tour with current students (meet at bears on east side of McLaughlin)

2:10 - 3:30 Office Hours with Faculty (faculty teams in their offices) and Student Discussion on Navigating Funding at ITS Berkeley in the Library (McLaughlin Hall)

3:30 - 5:00 ITS Seminar: “The Trump Administration on Transport: A New Era in Planning, Infrastructure, and Governance” (290 Hearst Memorial Mining Building).
