UC Berkeley’s Connected Corridors program, part of the PATH research center, has been chosen as a Beyond Traffic Innovation Center (BTIC) by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
The Connected Corridors team is very excited about being selected as a Beyond Traffic Innovation Center. This recognition will assist the program in continuing its mission of working with stakeholders to improve mobility, safety, congestion, and sustainability through an Integrated Corridor Management approach to the transportation challenges facing California and the nation.
Seventeen Innovation Centers were selected in twelve megaregions in the United States, with Connected Corridors representing the megaregion of Northern California. Innovation Centers were chosen based on commitment to the Beyond Traffic ideals, leadership characteristics, a working relationship with the USDOT on relevant research programs, and proposed solutions for improved mobility. Through the application of new technologies, social paradigms, and management approaches, Connected Corridors is aligned with the objectives identified by the USDOT in “Beyond Traffic 2045: Trends and Choices.”
As part of its ongoing work to advance corridor-wide integrated transportation management, Connected Corridors will continue the conversation launched by Beyond Traffic; evaluate and research new technologies; identify and develop training approaches for the future transportation workforce; and convene regional practitioners and public and private leaders to help identify specific actions that can be taken to address the megaregion’s challenges over the next 30 years.
