Passengers on JetBlue, American Airlines left on tarmac for seven hours or more at Hartford airport

Passengers on at least three JetBlue planes and one American Airlines plane were stranded on the tarmac for seven hours or more on Saturday at Bradley International Airport in Hartford, Conn. The Associated Press reports that travelers on the flights, diverted from New York-area airports following an unusual, heavy October snowstorm, experienced backed-up toilets, little or no food and a quickly dwindling supply of potable water, the report says....The carriers that stranded passengers on the tarmac could be facing large fines from federal regulators. In April of 2010, the Transportation Department adopted a rule that would impose a fine of up to $27,500 per passenger for a flight that is left on the tarmac for more than three hours without giving passengers a chance to deplane.
