Congratulations to recent UC Berkeley Civil and Environmental Engineering Ph.D. and ITS Berkeley gradutate Zhe Fu, who won first place in the 2026 H2H8 YouTube Research Presentation Competition. The competition, organized by Hearts to Humanity Eternal (H2H8), gave researchers an opportunity to present their work to a broader audience through research talks shared on YouTube.
Fu’s research focuses on using machine learning and control methods to improve transportation systems, with an emphasis on mixed-autonomy traffic. Her work investigates how automated vehicles can help smooth traffic flow, reduce congestion, and improve energy efficiency when operating alongside human-driven vehicles.
Fu has a longstanding connection with H2H8. In 2023, she received an H2H8 Graduate Research Grant supporting her work at UC Berkeley. H2H8 is a nonprofit organization supporting university students and postdoctoral researchers pursuing STEM research, including through research grants and opportunities for scholars to communicate their work with the broader community.
