Post Receives 2026 Graduate Assembly Faculty Mentor Award

Alison Post, Associate Professor of Political Science and Global Metropolitan Studies and Co-Director of the Global Metropolitan Studies Program at UC Berkeley, is a recipient of the 2026 Graduate Assembly Faculty Mentor Award. This award recognizes faculty who demonstrate exceptional commitment to mentoring and supporting graduate students.

Professor Post’s research lies at the intersection of comparative urban politics and political economy, with a regional focus on Latin America and South Asia. Her work examines the politics of privatized infrastructure, the effectiveness of subnational governance following decentralization, and broader challenges in urban policy. She is the author of Foreign and Domestic Investment in Argentina: The Politics of Privatized Infrastructure (Cambridge University Press, 2014), along with numerous influential publications across leading journals in political science and development.

Her scholarship and mentorship have earned widespread recognition, including designation as a Clarence Stone Scholar by the American Political Science Association and UC Berkeley’s Carol D. Soc Award for excellence in graduate mentoring. Her doctoral dissertation on water and sanitation privatization received the William Anderson Award for best dissertation in the field of federalism and intergovernmental relations.

In addition to her academic contributions, Professor Post has held prestigious research and fellowship positions, including as a Marshall Scholar, a postdoctoral researcher at Columbia University, and a visiting researcher at leading international institutions in Buenos Aires, Santiago, and London.
