Last week was a momentous occasion for the Federal government; they announced the first Federal Automated Vehicles policy governing the manufacture and sale of self-driving cars.
As US Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx made the announcement, he mentioned UC Berkeley’s automated vehicle research specifically, along with a handful of other university AV research leaders.
UC Berkeley was well represented at the event with ITS affiliated faculty Mechanical Engineering Professors Francesco Borrelli and Karl Hedrick, post doc Chan Kyu Lee and ME PhD student Ashwin Carvalho, as well as their vehicle.
