Thank you to Yotam Avrahami, Intelligent and Green transportation lead commercial and PPP programs, Deloitte, who presented Decarbonization of the Aviation Industry – from a complete trip to Supply and Demand of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) at the Transportation Seminar Sept. 8, 2023.
Abstract:
- The industry, through the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the Air Transport Action Group (ATAG), has committed to a 50% reduction in CO₂ emissions by 20504
- The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) formally recognized that technology and market-based measures will be needed for industry decarbonization. However, the successful development and deployment of SAF will be critical to reducing emissions by 2050
- Aviation is a hard-to-abate sector due to the long lifespan of airplanes and high cost of innovations. As the industry transitions to long-term decarbonization technologies, SAF presents an important near-term decarbonization mechanism
- SAF has received significant attention and subsequent investment in recent years from public and private entities who are collectively working to mature the nascent market
- While governmental SAF support is strong in the EU and US, support structures are inconsistent, with mandates in the EU and incentives in the US, and comparatively weak support in other geographies
Bio: Yotam Avrahami leads commercial and PPP (Private Public Partnerships) projects with Deloitte’s Intelligent Transportation offering. Yotam has supported Aerospace and Defense (A&D), Retail, logistics, start-up, and government (FAA, State’s DoTs, EDA, Israel DoT, Israel C&H)) clients to optimize and scale their intelligent transportation capabilities. In addition, he has worked closely with Fortune 500 Multinationals and Governmental Leading Institutions to stand up UAS programs, AAM market technology studies, and Growth Strategies.
Yotam is currently leading Deloitte’s commercialization of Decarbonization of the Aviation industry with specific focus on the SAF implementation (in A&D, airlines and utilities) in addition to the EV Data Hubs for utilities and fleet management solutions for Deloitte US.
