Last month, The Johns Hopkins Center for Injury Research and Policy at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health released a new report from the Safe System Consortium titled, “Recommendations of the Safe System Consortium.” Safe Transportation Research and Education Center Co-Director Offer Grembek partcipated in the Safe System Consortium which consisted of road safety experts including engineers, public health professionals, and scientists.
With support from the FIA Foundation, the Safe System Consortium gathered for a series of meetings and deliberations and produced a set of recommendations designed to change the course of road safety and work toward a more equitable transportation system. These conversations and the resulting recommendations were guided by a commitment to both safety and equity in visioning the country’s approach to creating a nextgeneration transportation system. The timing of these recommendations is purposeful, responding to the opportunities presented by a new federal surface transportation bill and the identification of priorities by a new team of senior officials at the U.S. Department of Transportation.
