Congressmember Mark DeSaulnier and Congressmember Kathy Castor visited the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory April 17, 2017.

While there, they discussed Sustainable Transportation: Advancing a Reliable, Resilient, and Energy-Efficient Transportation System for the Future with Executive Director, Sustainable Transportation Initiative Jane Macfarlane and Institute of Transportation Studies Director and LBNL Faculty Scientist, Energy Technologies Area Alexandre Bayen.

The discussion revolved around reliable, safe, fast, and affordable transportation that is vital to U.S. economic development. Focused research and critical technological, engineering, and policy breakthroughs are necessary to deliver a transportation system that is robust, resilient, responsive, and flexible enough to meet the nation’s needs.

Reps. DeSaulnier and Castor learned about the Lab’s Sustainable Transportation Initiative, which aims to meet these objectives.
