Moving Forward: Improving Transportation in Region 9

UC Berkeley Institute of Transportation Studies welcomed around 200 students, faculty, researchers, and professionals to the Pacific Southwest Region University Transportation Center Annual Congress March 24-25, 2025. Featuring lectern sessions, poster sessions, and keynote speakers, attendees delved into the most current and relevant transporation engineering and planning obsacles and solutions.
Highlights of the conference were a keynote session featuring CalSTA Secretary Toks Omishakin, a conversation with Nevada DOT Research Director Lucy Koury, an Oral History of Tribal Transportation and Mobility in San Diego County from California State University Long Beach Director of American Indian Studies Theresa Gregor, and the Presentation of Student of the Year Awards.
Largely student led sessions covered Innovations in Mobility, Infrastructure, and Environment, Behavioral Insights Around EV Adoption and Use, Deep Learning and Generative Models in Transportation, Social Inclusion, Disability, and Well-Being, Automation for Efficiency and Safety, Slow Streets and Bicycles, Micromobility, Carsharing, and Ride-Hailing, Disruptions and Resilience, VMT, LOS, CEQA, and Road Charge, Equity, Access, and Community, Decarbonizing Freight, Safety, Travel Behavior Trends, Access, Transit, and Communications and Workforce Development.
