Berkeley STRP 2021 Request for Proposals

March 30, 2021

The UC Institute of Transportation Studies is now accepting proposals for the FY 2021-22 Statewide Transportation Research Program (STRP) funded by the State of California through the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017 (Senate Bill 1) and the Public Transportation Account. The UC ITS is one of only a few UC-wide research programs that receives ongoing funding directly from the State of California. The legislature and executive branches have come to rely on UC ITS’ expertise and assistance to inform difficult and important choices about California’s transportation system.

UC Berkeley will be awarding approximately $800,000 in total across two components of our FY 2021-22 research program:

  • Transportation Equity -  Proposals addressing racial equity in transportation, as well as intersectional work on transportation equity (e.g. disability and race, gender and race, income and gender, etc.), in research design, collaboration, expected products, and/or dissemination will receive special consideration.

  • Annual STRP - Other research priorities included in this RFP were also identified in partnership with the UC ITS’ Board of Advisors. Broad topical areas include: Travel Behavior; Workforce and the Economy; Public Transit and Shared Mobility; Advanced Technologies, Communication Systems, and Data; Freight and Goods Movement; Vehicle Electrification; Transportation Infrastructure and SB-1 Implementation; Safety; and High Speed Rail.

We are issuing a single RFP to cover both components of the program. Each proposal submitted will be considered for both programs, as applicable. The proportion of funds distributed to each program will depend on the review outcomes of the proposals received, with at least $160,000 awarded to Transportation Equity research.

Proposals are due Tuesday, May 25, 2021, at 5:00 PM PDT.

Please refer to the following resources for more information and to apply:

If you have any additional questions, about the RFP or your eligbility to apply, please email Laura Melendy.
