BMW Group Visits Berkeley Campus

BMW Group gathers around an open autonomous vehicle on display

Partners for Advanced Transportation Technology Director and Civil and Environmental Engineering Associate Professor Scott Moura and Berkeley DeepDrive postdoc Mingyu Ding talk about he eCAL self-driving test vehicle with a delegation from the BMW Group.

Visitors from the BMW Group from Germany and Mountain View were on campus Thursday May 16, 2024 to meet with leadership and faculty in the College of Engineering.

Partners for Advanced Transportation Technology (PATH) Director and Civil and Environmental Engineering Associate Professor Scott Moura was featured on the tour, along with the eCAL self-driving test vehicle. Moura also talked about his research on EV chargers and his prior collaboration with BMW on battery management for EVs. Berkeley DeepDrive postdoc Mingyu Ding was also on hand.

PATH’s Berkeley DeepDrive (BDD) Director and Professor of Computer Science Trevor Darrell talked with the group about autonomous driving projects with BDD and Berkeley Artificial Intelligence Research (BAIR) Darrell continued with a conversation on artificial intelligence policy with Brandie Nonnecke, Director of the CITRIS Policy Lab, and Director, Jacobs Institute for Design Innovation and Eric Paulos, Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences.

In addition, the group took a tour of the Jacobs Institute for Design Innovation, which houses the BMW Design Research Program on Digital Sustainability, and met with College of Engineering Dean Tsu-Jae King Liu and Associate Dean for Research Tarek Zohdi, Professor of Mechanical Engineering.
