Caltrans Tour RFS

May 28, 2025

As the RFS Mobility Hub gains momentum and plans are taking shape, representatives from Caltrans and Partners for Advanced Transportation Technology (PATH) participated in a tour of activities at the Richmond Field Station on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.

Located just seven miles north of the UC Berkeley campus, the 170-acre Richmond Field Station serves as a vital hub for research, experimentation, and collaboration. It hosts multiple UC Berkeley research centers, supports around 70 student clubs, and provides space for UC-affiliated startups driving next-generation technologies.

During the visit, participants learned about and offered feedback on the new Mobility Hub plans and current operations at RFS, and engaged with a range of demonstrations and presentations, including PATH's current activities at RFS: charging station, AV vehicles and testing, V2X signal testing, and digital Infrastructure; new tech: Valtech Online Demo and Viva Demo; current startups located at RFS like Traverse Aero; a stop at the Center for Smart Infrastructure and TechTransfer to learn about continuing education and custom tailored classes, and many more exciting activities. The tour highlighted the station's role in advancing mobility solutions, smart infrastructure, and autonomous vehicle development.
