Congratulations to Civil and Environmental Engineering Doctoral Candidate Zhe Fu on receiving the UC Berkeley Dean's Award for Inclusive Excellence! She was presented with the award April 8, 2024.
Fu was nominated for the award for her integral inclusive work including:
- Organizing the first Asian Pacific Islander (API) awareness event in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in 2022, fostering increased visibility and support for API students.
- Founding the first API student organization in the CEE department in 2023, serving as president and leading several events to create a supportive community for students interested in API issues.
- Serving as the sole graduate representative on the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) committee in CEE, contributing to departmental climate improvement, analyzing DEIBlueprint survey results, and supporting initiatives for first-gen and transfer students.
- Acting as an executive board member for Women in Computer Science Engineering (WiCSE), organizing events to empower women in STEM and volunteering with the Girl Scouts to inspire young girls in STEM fields.
- Volunteering during Visit Days for both the CEE and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) departments, showcasing the inclusive community and providing insights into life at UC Berkeley for prospective students.
- Participating as a student member in faculty searches for both the CEE and EECS departments, contributing to the selection of faculty who value and promote DEIB principles.
