ITS Berkeley was well represented at the 2022 Annual Transportation Research Board Annual Meeting. With in-person sessions and hybrid committee meetings 45 faculty, researchers, and students from ITS Berkeley, UC Berkeley, and Berkeley Lab were scheduled to present, moderate, preside, or have research featured in over 40 sessions and committee meetings. In addition, we had several ITS affiliated students in attendance, including our Dwight David Eisenhower Transportation Fellows.
One ofthe major highlights of the meeting was Transportation Sustainability Research Center Co-Director and Civil and Environmental Engineering Professor Susan Shaheen presided over the event as Chair of the Transportation Research Board Executive Committee. This included the Chair's Plenary Session, a fireside chat with U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, led by Shaheen and Vice Chair Nathaniel Ford. She also presented at and attended several sessions and was onhand to present several distinguished awards throughout TRB.
Several of our students earned awards at TRB, including Wesley Darling and his colleagues who won the William Millar Award (Public Transportation) for their paper: Comparison of Reduced Fare Programs for Low Income Transit Riders in the Transportation Research Record, vol. 2675, 7: pp. 335-349. In addition, dual degree MCP/MS student Ethan Ebinger received First Place for his presentation on "Alternative Traffic Enforcement to Re-Center Road Safety" in the TRB Standing Committee for Transportation Safety Management Systems (ACS 10) Hot Topic contest.
