ITS Berkeley Awards Ceremony

ITS Berkeley came together to honor the 2021 Award winners on Friday May 6, 2022! We thank everyone for their support, service, and hard work. See the award video above and picures of the ceremony and reception below.

Bill Quirk

Distinguished Award for Advancement of Research and Innovation: Bill Quirk

This award is being presented to Assemblymember Dr. Bill Quirk for his demonstrated and effective commitment to transportation research and to recognize outstanding contributions in support of the Institute’s mission. Quirk was selected in recognition of his strong leadership in supporting the RIMI initiative, benefitting research in the four UC ITS campuses, and for his tireless support and enthusiasm for this effort.

Jane Macfarlane

ITS Culture of Excellence: Jane Macfarlane

This award is presented to Jane Macfarlane to recognize outstanding contributions in support of the Institute’s mission and in recognition of her work in applied research, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.

Eduardo Serafin

ITS Service to the Community Award: Eduardo Serafin

This award is presented to Eduardo Serafin to recognize outstanding contributions in support of the Institute’s mission and in recognition of his outstanding accomplishments in professional development and technical assistance benefitting California.

Josh Bass

ITS Staff of the Year Award: Josh Bass

This award is presented to Josh Bass by the Institute of Transportation Studies to recognize outstanding contributions in support of the Institute’s mission and in recognition of his outstanding work in financial analysis, project management, and services to research students, across multiple ITS organizations.

Daisy Son

ITS Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award: Daisy Son

This award is presented Daisy Son to recognize outstanding contributions in recognition of her excellent work in research for the Strategic Growth Council project, contributions to recognizing and memorializing women’s history at Berkeley, and collaborative work accomplished with great initiative, insight, and creativity.

Maggie Paul Lazar

PRC Distinguished Legacy Award: Maggie Paul Lazar

This award is presented to Maggie Paul Lazar by the Institute of Transportation Studies on behalf of PRC to recognize outstanding contributions in support of the Institute’s mission and in recognition of her decades of exceptional support to the UC PRC, demonstrating throughout your decades of service to ITS unflagging dedication, exemplary quality, and a great professionalism.

Jacquelyn Broader

TSRC Staff Award: Jacquelyn Broader

This award is presented to Jacquelyn Broader by the Institute of Transportation Studies on behalf of TSRC to recognize outstanding contributions in support of the Institute’s mission and in recognition of her tireless support to TSRC research and the overall team, and her many contributions to TSRC's shared micromobility and shared mobility research.

Min Zhou

TechTransfer Instructor of the Year: Min Zhou

This award is presented to Min Zhou by the Institute of Transportation Studies on behalf of TechTransfer to recognize outstanding contributions in support of the Institute’s mission and in recognition of extraordinary commitment and dedication to TechTransfer's continuing education classes and students.

Lynne Hollyer

ITS Distinguished Service: Lynne Hollyer

This award recognizes Lynne Hollyer for outstanding contributions in support of the Institute’s mission and in recognition of her outstanding partnership and dedication to advancing the Institute of Transportation Studies, research centers, and researchers.

Professor Joan Walker

ITS Faculty of the Year: Professor Joan Walker

This award recognizes Joan Walker for outstanding contributions in support of the Institute’s mission and in recognition of extraordinary research, teaching, mentorship and work in DEIBJ (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging and Justice).

Xiao-Yun Lu

ITS Team Leadership Award:  Xiao-Yun Lu

This award is presented to Xiao-Yun Lu in support of the Institute’s mission and in recognition of his extraordinary and tireless work in leading a team of transportation researchers in the conduct of cutting edge research and demonstrations in the area of truck automation.

Ibrahim Itani

ITS Outstanding Graduate Student Award: Ibrahim Itani

This award is presented to Ibrahim Itani to recognize outstanding contributions in support of the Institute’s mission and in recognition of his research, dedication as a GSI, and his unflagging support of fellow students.

David Rapkin

PRC Culture of Excellence: David Rapkin

This award is presented to Dave Rapkin by the Institute of Transportation Studies on behalf of PRC to recognize outstanding contributions in support of the Institute’s mission and in recognition of his remarkable contribution to the quality of the testing at PRC, and for his exemplary dedication, meticulosity, and professionalism.

Praveen Vayalamkuzhi
