ITS Berkeley and TechTransfer welcomed École Polytechnique Executive Master Program students June 16-21, 2019 for a weeklong module combining Transportation and The Silicon Valley Ecosystem, with one day of business site visits. This is the second year UC Berkeley has hosted students from the program in a growing collaboration with École Polytechnique.
The 26 participants representing 11 countries, including France, Benin, Portugal, Guinea, Germany, India, Morocco, Cameroon, Belgium, Columbia and the US, in the executive program, based at École Polytechnique in Paris, France, have been taking modules in France, Europe, Asia and Berkeley over a 14-month program to advance their careers without compromising their professional obligations, and aims to provide leaders with key managerial skills to successfully influence, lead change, and stay ahead of the curve on a global scale. The program culminates in a group project which threads together lessons learned throughout the course into a growth strategy for an established company, a new business or market development plan within an established firm, or a new company start-up or growth plan.
The program draws students from a number of companies like The World Bank Group, Salesforce, GE, Texas Instruments France, and the University of Bordeaux and professions, like sales, IT, engineering, operations, executives, consulting, and healthcare.
ITS Berkeley affiliate Susan Shaheen taught a session on the Future of Urban Transport: Mobility and ITS Director Alexandre Bayen taught Transportation Systems, Networks, Vehicles: Modeling and control of large-scale mobility systems.
On the entrepreneurship portion of the program, TechTransfer’s Learn2Launch Managing Director and Lead Instructor Mark Coopersmith and faculty affiliates John Danner and Whitney Hischier taught Mindset, Frameworks, and Resources for Innovation and Growth; and Coopersmith and Kurt Beyer taught The Silicon Valley “OS” (Operating System) and Ecosystem, in addition to Coopersmith and TechTransfer Director Laura Melendy bringing students to Salesforce, Schoolab, Lyft for tours.
With intense curriculum activities by day students were also engaged in the evenings with a welcome event at the Hotel Shattuck Plaza, an evening reception the University Club, a dinner cruise on the bay and a reception at the Residence of the Consul General of France.
Participants will wrap up their course in November 2019.
