Congratulations to SafeTREC Research Data Analyst Liza Lutzker, who recently was selected as a Computational Social Sciences Fellow for 2024-2026!
The UC Berkeley Computational Social Science Training Program (CSSTP) is a two-year multidisciplinary training program in advanced data analytics that supports predoctoral students focusing on the social and behavioral sciences. Fellows participating in this program develop advanced computational and data science analytics skills to address urgent needs in biomedical, behavioral, social and clinical research. They are being trained to take advantage of recent advances in medical informatics, electronic health records, big data analytics, mobile/wearable technologies, social media and web-generated data, as well as geospatial and administrative data.
Lutzker is an Epidemiology PhD student at the UC Berkeley School of Public Health. Her research focuses on how traffic safety outcomes and disparities in the US are affected by current and historical institutions, policies and practices which embed biases against poor people or racially minoritized groups. Her current project examines the efficacy of traditional police traffic enforcement on preventing fatal and severe traffic collisions.
Prior to pursuing a PhD, Liza worked broadly in the field of environmental and occupational epidemiology at the Massachusetts and California Departments of Public Health and in the Environmental Health Sciences Division at the UC Berkeley School of Public Health. Liza holds an MPH in Epidemiology from the Yale School of Public Health and BAs in Biology and Philosophy from Amherst College.
