Lee Schipper Memorial Scholarship for Sustainable Transport and Energy Efficiency recipient Teddy Forscher presented his research at the at the Transforming Transportation 2020 Jan. 16-17, 2020 at World Bank Headquarters, Washington, DC.
Forscher, a Transportation Engineering doctoral student advised by professors Susan Shaheen, Joan Walker and Elizabeth Deakin, received the scholarship to fund his research: If They Come Should We Build It? Consumer decisions, last-mile deliveries, and sustainability as e-commerce grows.
“I would like thank my advisors for the support on the Schipper scholarship,” says Forscher. “I never had the chance to meet Lee, but it felt like I got to know him a bit through all of the recollections people had about him, and he is an inspiring person.”
The Scholarship, awarded by an Advisory Board of selected experts in the field under the World Resources Institute Foundation, targets supporting the momentum of Lee Schipper’s contribution to the enrichment of the international policy dialogue in the fields of sustainable transport and energy efficiency. Schipper, international physicist, researcher, musician and co-founder of EMBARQ, inspired and shaped the thinking of a generation of students and professionals and was widely recognized for enriching policy dialogue with his passion for data and challenging conventional wisdom.
The Scholarship is aimed at expanding the contributions to research and policy dialogue in the field of sustainable transport and energy efficiency and supports initiatives triggering and catalyzing transformative research and policy papers, placing a special emphasis on “iconoclastic” contributions (challenging conventional wisdom) that have clear, transformative outputs and contribute to measurable changes.
Forscher is looking forward to building on the contacts he met as a scholarship recipient and speaker at the event to collaborate on future research.
