Xavi Matilla is the Chief Architect of the city of Barcelona since October 2019. He is in charge of the city urban model and the strategies to reach a healthier, liveable and fairer city, among which stands out Barcelona Superblock program.
He is an Associate Professor at the Department of Urbanism and Territorial Planning (DUOT) at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) and at the Master Metropoli in Metropolitan and Urban Studies, at the Barcelona Institute of Regional and Metropolitan Studies (IERMB).
Before joining the City of Barcelona he had developed his professional career in different offices of recognized prestige in the field of urban planning, having won several awards and recognitions and had been Secretary of the Urbanist-Architects Association of Catalonia.
