Professor William Ibbs, faculty member in the CEE Engineering and Project Management program, testified before the California State Senate on Nov. 13 about construction cost growth on state megaprojects, such as the eastern span of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge and the California High Speed Rail project.
Improving the state's performance in delivery of megaprojects is a critical and timely topic. Many of the state's challenges require visionary, expansive solutions that touch nearly every realm of public infrastructure. Because of the projects' size, setting up governance and management structures to control risk and avoid escalating costs can save billions of dollars.
