ITS Berkeley warmly welcomed 13 prospective students during the Transportation Engineering Open House Friday April 8, 2016.
While students were on campus, they learned about the university and what it can offer from faculty, UC Berkeley’s transportation curriculum for the MS, PhD, MS/MCP options with faculty and current students, the Institute of Transportation Studies from the associate director and attended panels on ITS’s Research Centers, Student Research Experiences with faculty and current students and Career Paths students, alumni and staff, and Transportation Graduate Students Society and Student Life at Berkeley. Prospective students also took tours of the university with current students and got to know the lay of the land and local eateries.
“Prospective students really enjoyed interacting with the TE team and learning about the program,” says student coordinator for the open house Nathalie Saade. “They described the experience as informative, genuine and fun. When asked to give one word to describe Berkeley, they said ‘prestigious,’ ‘beautiful,’ and ‘relaxed!’”
The students also enjoyed a Smart Cities Roundtable, part of the Transportation Seminar series, called The Future of Big Data and Mobile Access.” Panelists included Tierra Bills, IBM Research | Africa Research Scientist, Amanda Eaken, Deputy Director of the Urban Solutions Program at the Natural Resources Defense Council, Matthew George, CEO of Bridj, and Tim Papandreou, Director of Strategic Planning at San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, moderated by Smart Cities Research Center Director Alexey Pozdnukhov.
