Soga Delivers Rankine Lecture

April 14, 2025

SogaCEE Professor Kenichi Soga delivered the 63rd Rankine Lecture – From Geo-monitor to Geo-adapt: leveraging distributed sensing and data analytics for performance-based design, construction, and maintenance, on March 19, 2025.

The Rankine Lecture is one of the most prestigious invited lectures in geotechnics. The lecture commemorates William John Macquorn Rankine, Professor of Civil Engineering at Glasgow University, who was one of the first engineers in the UK to make a significant contribution to soil mechanics.

He is best known for his theory of earth pressure on retaining walls. The lecture is also about the earth's pressure on retaining walls. The details of the Rankine lecture can be found here. The lecture is available on Youtube.
