Thesis: On the Deflection Theory of Arches

Professor Monismith has been a faculty member at UC Berkeley for more than 50 years. His work in pavement design and rehabilitation and asphalt paving technology has garnered him worldwide recognition. He has published numerous papers that have won awards from the Association of Asphalt Paving Technologists, the Transportation Research Board, and the American Society of Civil Engineers.


Professor Monismith has acted as a consultant on pavement research and design for a number of prominent organizations including the Asphalt Institute; the United States Army Corps of Engineers Waterways Experiment Station, Vicksburg, Mississippi; Transport Canada; and the United States Air Force. He is also an active member of many professional societies and he has served as the Chair of the Board of Directors of the International Society for Asphalt Pavement.
