Abstract:
This article discusses efforts towards improving the utilization of the data that is collected by Transportation Management Centers (TMCs). It describes TransAcct, a transportation accounting system that allows access to statistical summaries of the operation of a transportation system. The author describes benefits of enhanced data analysis, including methods to monitor system performance, improved ramp metering, identifying faulty loop detectors, and applications derived from electronic toll collection activities.
