CATRes aims to build a more resilient and efficient NAS
CATRes will improve NAS resilience by conducting systematic stress testing to identify vulnerabilities that have the potential to lead to widespread disruption. Once vulnerabilities are identified, the NAS will be hardened by either mitigating or removing the vulnerabilities all together. CATRes will stress test and harden the NAS by achieving the following research objectives:
1. Evaluation and Identification of Vulnerabilities
CATRes will develop NAS stress testing methodology that predicts how the NAS would respond to disruption scenarios.
2. Prescriptions for Improved Resilience
Develop specific strategies for flight operators, the FAA, airports, and others to bolster the resiliency of the NAS.
3. Design of a Mechanism for Continued Monitoring.
Capture lasting benefits from Research Objectives 1 and 2 by developing a process to continually monitor the resilience of the NAS to identify potential disruptions, vulnerabilities, and prescriptions.
